Hi! My name is Laura and I started this group to help Duluth-area parents meet and get together with like-minded people to share opinions, knowledge, friendship, etc.
I have three young children and ever since I was pregnant with my first, I wished that there was a group of people that I could meet with to discuss various issues I had on my mind. I remember being very concerned about vaccines for my first-born, but didn’t really have anyone to talk to at the time. At that point, most of my friends didn’t have kids and therefore did not have the same concerns I had. Now, I have several friends who have recently had children and have now turned to me for some answers. It made me revisit the idea of “wouldn’t it be nice if there was a group of people that you could discuss that with?” Whether that was ‘what type of cloth diapers do you use and do you like them?’ or ‘do you know anyone willing to part with their old stroller?’ I mentioned the idea of starting a group to a few friends and the news spread.
Our group was established in Spring, 2010 and currently meets every other week. Meetings are informal and do not have ‘main topics’ unless someone wants to plan and discuss something in particular. Treats are served by group members on a voluntary and rotating basis. Meetings are held at group members houses or local parks. We currently have about 30 members signed up on our e-mail list.
Do you have young children? Bring them along! Children are welcome and encouraged to attend, making meetings a social time for kids as well!
Although this group is attended by several parents with young children, everyone is welcome to attend - guys and girls!
